Daniel J. Gorman, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Eastpointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Chelsea following a lengthy illness. He was 88 years old.

Daniel was born in Boston on September 8, 1924, a son of the late Charles Gorman and Sarah (Doherty) Gorman. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended the Boston Public School system. Dan worked as a Lab Technician for a photo laboratory for many years.

Daniel is the devoted brother of Catherine Gorman of Charlestown.

Francis G. “Frank” Egan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Medford Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Medford following a lengthy illness. He was 87 years old.

Frank was born in Boston on April 25, 1926, a son of the late Francis G. Egan and Winetta W. (Maguire) Egan. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended the Boston Public School system. Frank worked several years as an usher at a local movie theatre.

Frank is the beloved son of the late Francis G. Egan and Winetta W. (Maguire) Egan. He is the devoted brother of Helen Costa and her husband Anthony of Boston, Dorothy Pfennig of New York and the late Thomas Curran, Lillian Brown and Robert Egan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frank’s visiting hours on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon followed by his Funeral Service at 12 Noon in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Interment is private.

Robert D. “Robbie” Upton, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 1, 2013 suddenly at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 39 years old.

Robbie was born in Stoneham on May 3, 1974, a son of Melvin F. Upton and Juanita “Sis” (Taylor) Upton. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Ann’s Parochial School in Somerville, Don Bosco High School in Boston and graduated from Pope John High School in Everett in 1992. Robbie worked for the City of Boston as a Technician for Boston Water & Sewer for several years.

Robbie is the loving son of Juanita “Sis” (Taylor) Upton and retired Boston Firefighter Melvin F. “Mel” Upton. He is the devoted brother of Cheryl Roy and her husband Tyler of Charlestown, Christine Poore and her husband Rob of Manchester, New Hampshire, Joseph Upton of Charlestown, Kimberly Upton of Abington and Michael Upton of Winthrop. He is the loving uncle to 7 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bernard J. “Bernie” Kelly, a 25 year resident of Medford and former longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, June 7, 2013 at North Shore Medical Center in Salem following an extended illness. He was 83 years old.

Bernie was born in Boston on February 2, 1930, a son of the late Edward F. Kelly and Mary (Devir) Kelly. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1948. He then attended Boston University for 2 years. Bernie enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on October 31, 1950 and served his country with pride and honor during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1952 with the rank of Corporal. Bernie worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 37 years and retired as a Lab Inspector several years ago. Bernie was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and the Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus. He was past president of The Irish Heritage Society and a founding member of the Charlestown Militia. He was a honorary member of The Bunker Hillbillies of the Charlestown Boys Club and was a dedicated coach and volunteer to the Charlestown Youth Hockey program many years ago. Bernie enjoyed playing the banjo at many social events and would always attract a crowd for a sing-a-long. Bernie was a proud Townie and Marine and most of all a dedicated family man.

Bernie is the beloved and devoted husband of 58 years to Rita L. (Keigney) Kelly. He is the devoted father of Patricia Kelley and her husband Joe of Charlestown, Bernard J. Kelly Jr. and his wife Ann of Burlington, Mary Byrnes and her husband Gerry of Medford and Edward Kelly and his wife Christine of Melrose. He is the loving Boopa to 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Philip Kelly and his wife Rose of Melrose and the late Edward Kelly, Jack Kelly, Bill Kelly, Bridget Garvin and Margaret Rogan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Marian E. (Juby) Marshall, a 2 year resident of The Gables in Winchester and a former 65 year resident of Somerville, entered into eternal life on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Winchester Hospital following an extended illness. She was 85 years old.

Marian was born in Charlestown on May 4, 1928, a daughter of the late Harold F. Juby and Marian E. (Tuttle) Juby. She was raised in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Marian worked several jobs in the Somerville area during her lifetime and was a dedicated volunter at Somerville Hospital and was a member of the Somerville Hospital Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed reading and traveling and her most enjoyment was spending quality time with her entire family.

Marian is the beloved wife of the late Edward S. Marshall. She is the devoted mother of Jack Marshall and his wife Lois of Reading, Judy DeMarco of Burlington and the late Ed Marshall. She is the loving Grandma to 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy F. “Dot” (Shannon) Walsh, a longtime resident of Charlestown and a former 46 year resident of Medford, entered into eternal life at her home in Charlestown on Friday, July 5, 2013 following an extended illness.

Dot was born in Boston on February 21, 1916, a daughter of the late Thomas Shannon and Catherine (Gallagher) Shannon. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1934. She also attended Carrols School for the Blind in Watertown. Dot was a dedicated mother, a devoted friend, and a zealous disciple of Jesus on earth. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association, “Happy Eight”, The Mothers Club of St. Catherine of Sienna, Malden Support Group for the Blind, Riverside Towers Club and The High Rise Club. She was a former employee of Boston ATT and The Medford Public Library.

Dot is the wife of the late John F. Walsh. She is the devoted mother of Jack Walsh of Newbury, Diane Espindle and her husband David of Martha’s Vineyard and the late Dorothy Colclough. She is the proud grandmother of Steven Trussell, Kara Espindle Wood, Skye Colclough, Mark Colclough, Amy Espindle Ignatowicz, Jesse Gallagher, Shannon Walsh, Max Espindle Kohistani and David Bryan Espindle. She is the great-grandmother to Shane, Ryan, and Dylan Douglas, Brandon and Adam Ignatowicz and Alexander Wood. She is the loving sister of Bernadette Gillespie Toomey of Squantum, and the late Catherine Shannon Hughes, Anne Shannon, Mae Shannon Devine, Thomas Shannon, Margaret Gillespie and Joseph Gillespie. She is the devoted Godmother to Noreen McGee of Malden. She is the proud aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Jamie was born in Boston on January 8, 1960, a son of the late Mary B. (Flaherty) Junta and Samuel J. Junta. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended the Boston Public School system. Jamie worked many years as a self employed plasterer. He enjoyed science, reading, listening to music and being around the company of his family. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus.

Jamie is the devoted brother of Barbara and Arthur Tracy, Mary Ellen and Richard Brown, John and Susan Junta, Agnes Junta-White, Thomas Junta, Ann and Bernie Kelly, Michael Junta, Theresa Lawton, Paul and Sheila Junta, Daniel and Caroline Junta and Patrick and Caroline Junta. He is the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is the husband of the late Julie O’Neil. Step-father of Nicole.

Rhonda A. Reeder, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 47 years old.

Rhonda was born in Somerville on August 24, 1965, a daughter of George E. Reeder and Irene T. (McGonagle) Reeder . She grew up in Charlestown and was loved by her entire family all of her life and was a 35 year client of The Life Focus Center in Charlestown. Rhonda enjoyed listening to music and dancing and loved all the Boston sports teams.

Rhonda is the loving twin sister of Richard Reeder and his wife Lisa and she is the devoted sister of George E. Reeder Jr., David L. Reeder, Irene Reeder, Mary Dacey and her husband Michael and John Reeder. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ann was born in Cambridge on October 31, 1936, a daughter of the late Frederick Apel and Mary (O’Connor) Apel. Ann grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Ann enjoyed vacationing at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire and most importantly spending quality time with her family.

Ann is the beloved and devoted wife of 56 years to Francis X. “Frank” Kelley. She is the devoted mother of Ann Marie Kelley of Charlestown, Francis X. “Frank” Kelley Jr. of Holbrook, Daniel D. Kelley of Charlestown, Nancy Trant of Stoneham, Jean Marie Nabstedt of Medford and Timothy P. Kelley of Charlestown. She is the loving Grandmother to 11 grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Mary Almquist and Frances Wilson.

She worked as an operator for New England Telephone Company for more than 20 years. Helen was a homemaker and enjoyed the special times that she could spend with her family.

Helen is the beloved wife of the late William J. O’Keefe. She is the devoted mother of Mary Pat Troisi and her husband Andrew of Everett, William J. O’Keefe Jr. and his wife Lauren of Medford, Sally O’Keefe and her companion Paul Wisdom of Somerville and Thomas O’Keefe of Medford. She is the loving Grandma to Devin, Liam, Riley, Lyndsay, Colin, Emily and Katirose. Margaret was born in Somerville on November 7, 1922, a daughter of the late Daniel Mahoney and Bridget (O’Rourke) Mahoney. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system. Margaret dedicated over 35 years of her life as an Instructor at the Life Focus Center in Charlestown providing services to the special needs people of Charlestown. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting and was a member of The Charlestown Irish Heritage Society.

Margaret is the beloved wife of the late John J. Driscoll. She is the devoted mother of John J. Driscoll Jr. and his wife Maura of Reading and MaryEllen Campbell and her husband Danny of Reading. She is the loving Nana Marg to Dan Campbell, Mae Driscoll and Hannah Campbell. She is the beloved sister of John Mahoney (Retired Boston Police Officer) of Charlestown and the late Mary Barone, Helena Dever, James Mahoney, Charles Mahoney, Daniel Mahoney and Francis Mahoney. She is the sister-in-law of Joan Mahoney of Seabrook, New Hampshire. She is the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Catherine was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1913, a daughter of the late Maurice J. McNamara and Karin E. (Johansson) McNamara. She grew up in Roslindale where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Girls High School in Boston in 1932. Catherine worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration for over 15 years. She was a seamstress and enjoyed knitting and sewing ,reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of The Viking Club of Braintree. Catherine enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.

Catherine is the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Norris. She is the devoted mother of Thomas F. Norris Jr. and his wife Ruth of Andover, David H. Norris and his wife Cornelia of Andover, Paul M. Norris and his wife Diane of Quincy and the late Richard “Beepo” Norris. She is the beloved mother-in-law of Marie Norris of Charlestown. She is the loving Grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandaughter. She is the beloved sister of Elsa Erickson of Randolph, Martin McNamara of Brockton, Margaret Taras of Milton and the late Harold McNamara, Ann Parent, Alice Gannon and Maurica Nugent. Edna C. (Auch) Hanscom, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 2, 2013 at her home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. She was 75 years old.

Edna was born in Boston on September 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Joseph Auch and Marye (Campbell) Auch. She grew up in Charlestown and was educated in the Boston Public School system. Edna was a homemaker and enjoyed all the quality time she was able to spend with her entire family.

Edna is the beloved wife of the late Alton Hanscom and Eugene Lawrence. She is the devoted mother of Gene Lawrence and his wife Leigh-Anne, Joan Godding, Liz Hanscom and her companion Tony Resendes, Alton Hanscom and the late Judy Lawrence, James Lawrence and Michael Hanscom. She is the loving Gram to 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Harold Auch and Jeannette Auch-Paz. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edward J. Elwell, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.

Ed was born on Boston on January 19, 1937, a son of the late James H. Elwell and Josephine A. (McMillan) Elwell. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Ed enlisted into the United States Navy on August 8, 1955 and served his country with pride and honor during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on August 14, 1957 with the rank of Machinist Mate Third Class. Ed worked for Sears & Roebuck Company as a warehouseman and was a member of Teamsters Union Local # 25 for over 45 years. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus and was a longtime friend of Bill W. He was a season ticket holder for the Boston Red Sox and took great enjoyment spending quality time with his family and especially his 5 grandchildren.

Ed is the beloved and loving husband of 51 years to Ann M. (Power) Elwell. He is the devoted father of Edward G. Elwell and his wife Patricia, Michael P. Elwell, Dennis P. Elwell and the late Stephen J. Elwell. He is the loving Grandpa to Conor, Meghan, Katie, Cullen and Stephen. He is the beloved brother of James Elwell and his late wife Doris, Nancy Walles and her husband Billy, Betty Power and her husband Billy and the late Barbara Elwell, Joanne Grealish and Elaine Silva. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ann was born in Boston on February 3, 1940, a daughter of the late Joseph V. Crilley and Mary E. (Hederson) Crilley. Ann grew up in Charlestown where she attended the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Ann worked as a bank teller for several banks in the Charlestown area. She was a homemaker who cared for her husband and children and took great pride in her grandchildren.

Ann is the beloved and devoted wife of 50 years to retired Boston Firefighter Leo Martin. She is the devoted mother of Jack Martin and his wife Anne, Tom Martin and his wife Una, Dan Martin and Annmarie D’Angelo and her husband Jon. She is the loving Nana to Haley, Joseph, Hannah and Matthew. She is the beloved sister of Tom Crilley and the late Joseph Crilley.

Guy was born in Somerville on November 22, 1949, a son of the late Gaetano Perito and Emma (DeLeo) Perito. Guy grew up in Charlestown and was educated in the Boston Public School system. He worked as a manager for several restaurants in the area for several years.

Guy is the beloved husband of 31 years to Tina M. (LeBlanc) Perito. He is the devoted father of Fred Perito, Jennie Perito, Emily Perito, Harold Perito, Tammi Georgopoulos, Guy Perito Jr., Christopher Perito and Janette Michaels. He is the beloved brother of Gil Perito, Al Perito and Maryann Perito. He is also survived by several grandchildren and his beloved dog Olivia.

Daniel E. “Danny” Woods, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 52 years old.

Danny was born in Boston on May 25, 1961, a son of Sally M. (Sullivan) Woods and Richard E. “Pookie” Woods. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Catherine’s and St. Mary’s Parochial Schools. He attended Matignon High School for 3 years and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1979. Danny has been a longshoreman working on the Boston waterfront for the last 25 years. He is a member of The International Longshoreman’s Association Union Local # 799. Danny became famous recently when he was approached for the movie “The Town” and played the role of a Boston Police Officer in the movie.

Danny is the loving son of Sally M. (Sullivan) Woods and retired Boston Firefighter Richard E. “Pookie” Woods. He is the beloved father of Whitney Woods and beloved grandfather of Emma Rose. He is the devoted brother of Richard E. Woods Jr. of Charlestown, Kelly Considine and her husband Danny of Charlestown, Kevin Woods and his wife Pattyann of Charlestown and Boston Firefighter Patrick Woods (Engine # 39) and his wife Erin of Charlestown. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rose was born in Boston on March 3, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph McCabe and Mary (Haggerty) McCabe. She grew up in Charlestown and was educated in the Boston Public School system where she graduated from Charlestown High School in 1933. Rose has been a homemaker most of her adult life and took pride in taking care of her husband and 3 children. She has been an active member of St. Francis De Sales Church in Charlestown for many years and was a member of the choir and social club. She was a lifetime member of The Daughters of Isabella # 1 and a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.

Rose is the beloved wife of the late Richard F. “Dick” Lyman. She is the devoted mother of Richard F. Lyman Jr. and his wife Debbie of Charlestown, Roseanne Sheehan and her husband Daniel of Charlestown and Catherine Ellis and her husband Jim of Milford. She is the loving Nana to 5 grandchildren and Grandnana to 2 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Helen Burhoe, Dorothy O’Toole, Ruth Muzzrole, Mary Walsh, Charles, John, Francis, Joseph, Bernard and Cornelius McCabe. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Olga was born in Boston on April 12, 1927, a daughter of the late John Ghirardelli and Emma (Bernini) Ghirardelli. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system. Olga worked for several years as a sales clerk at Filene’s Basement Company. She enjoyed traveling to Foxwood’s and enjoyed the opportunity anytime she was able to sing and dance.

Olga is the devoted mother of Thomas Lanahan of Newington, New Hampshire, Shirley Lanahan of Charlestown and Christine Chin and her husband Robert of Windham, New Hampshire. She is the loving Grandma to Sarah Kastriner and her wife Cate, Joshua Lanahan and his wife Michelle, Zachary Chin and her 2 great-granddaughters; Sophie and Johanna. She is the beloved sister of Louie Ghiradelli of Somerville and the late Andrew, Joseph and Theresa Ghirardelli. She is the loving aunt to Deborah, Lynn and Leigh-Ann.
